The lived experience of blindness

Oftentimes, the lived experience of blindness is stripped of its complexity—or left out of conversations entirely. That ends with Who We Are, an exhibit that invites you into the vibrant, diverse and often misunderstood realities of living with blindness or low vision.

Here, you’ll meet artists, adventurers, businesspeople, advocates, parents, students, teachers, and innovators as their whole, authentic selves—their moments of joy, struggle, triumph, and resilience.

Challenge your own assumptions as you flip through panels that confront common misconceptions about disability.

Feel what it’s like to experience the world using various assistive technologies. From getting familiar with the different types of white canes to meeting a guide dog replica, you won’t just learn about how people who are blind or low vision get around—you’ll experience it.

And as you move through these experiences, you’ll discover how blindness and vision loss have shaped art, culture, and innovation. Like the piano Stevie Wonder played as a child, which stands as a reminder of the limitless reach of human potential.
